A high serum leve/ of f-orrx:xJysteine is presentty considered a risk factor far atrerothrorrbotic disea~ in normal subjects. Recent evidence support an important role of homocysteine in type 2 diabetic
patients by increasing endothelial dysfunction and throrrbosis. Associated with other conditions &JCh
as vitamine B12, folate deficiency, nephropathy or poor metabolic control significantly increase
vascular complications particularly in diabetic women. This article review the most important data
corcerning hyperhomocysteinemia and vascular complications in diabetes mellitus.
