Latex allergy is the second cause of intraoperatory anaphilaxys, following muse/e
relaxonts. There are groups of risk for sensitization and allergy to latex allergens.
ldentification of patients in risk for latex allergy is very important for developing a study before surgery. Patients that develop symptoms with latex devices or fruits who hove cross-reactivity with latex allergens, must be studied. In vitro and in vivo tests are considered in the study.
Once the latex allergy diagnosis has been made, preventive measures should be taken in the affected patients as well as in the patients who belong to the high risk groups, such as patients with spina bifida. This preventNe measures should be token at home and at the hospital. The patients that belong to high risk groups, should be managed with primary preventive measures, trying to
avoid latex sensitization.
Two clínica/ cases are presented.
