lt is presented the design, implementation and results obtained b y a Control Program of Clinical Management that use economic indicators and which has been developed by the Service of Maternity and Operation Management of the Hospital Clínico d e la Universidad de Chile. Special emphasis is made on work carried out far the determination of pac kages assistance cost, the comparison between them and the standard ones regardin g the determination of cost incidence and the obtainment of a methodology of effective management control that could contribute, to the
medical performance monitoring. This model has implied the assistance packages component-cost of the Maternity Service, its comparison with the real activity of the Service itself, the establishment of
assistance packages that are located out of the confidence 98% interval and the individual study of
the clínical records and their corresponding auditing, so as to investigate causes and offer
corrections that are necessary to the clínical management and new and more adequate assistance packages.
