Abstract

From the beginings of medicine, there has been much concern about the effect of mouth and bowell diseases in the general well being of the person. Lately the idea that gum disease and cardiovascular diseases share similar risk factors it has been hypothesised. Moreover in epidemiologic studies it has been shown that patients with severe gum disease doubled the risk of having an acute cardiovascular event. Gum disease is a chronic imflamatory disease and can affect atheromatous and thrombotic events. The chronic nature of gum disease give rise a rich variety of anaerobic bacteria, besides an immune response, with sustoined host imflomotory downstreom signoling. Two factors could hove a direct effect on both pothological processes: Liposocorid and Monocyte Hyperimflomotory (Phenotype MO+). Basic science evidence is still not enough, to support this hypothesis nonetheless, clinical data is mountíng and there is need for deepening and paromount the challenge we face.
