Abstract

The characteristics of neonathology services can be so different that the comparisons among them is very difficult. However, it is necessary to have local references to measure the advance in the methods in use and at the same time to work in achieving consensus to obtain time/y information ata national and local level. We present an analysis of the mortality in the Neonathology Service of the Hospital Clínico Universidad de Chile between 1996 and 1999. The information was extracted from a data base with a previous consensus among the neonathologists of our Service and ordered according to the modified criteria of Wigglesworth. We describe the mortality by weight of birth, gestational age and by groups of diagnoses.
