In the recent years a consensus has been developed in order that the incidence of pressure ulcers is an important indicator of the quality of healthcare. Nevertheless, in many hospitals the pressure ulcers risk prediction and prevention meassures have been for a long time overlooked.
It 's well known the costs and human suffering associated with the treatment of pressure ulcers is tremendous and, far the most part, unnecessary.
A program of prevention guided by risk assessment can simultaneosly reduce the institutional incidence of pressure ulcers and bring down the cost of prevention and treatment at the same time.
For this purpose a multidisciplinary committee was created.
