An increasing interese has been observed in the development of techniques and strategies tending to decrease the use of blood and its products, as well as to avoid them while they are under medical treatment.
Different aspects support this idea as far example the risks they bring along, the evergrowing knowledge about anemia phisiophatology, oxigen transport and a huge technical and pharmacological development. Also, people for different reason decide to avoid the use of blood in their treatments.
Following this idea our hospital has organized since last year an alternative programme to blood transfusion.
This paper is an outline of the clinical and physiopathological facts in which is based the idea of non blood transfusion and the technical and pharmacological resources to make ir feasible.
