Abstract

Arthroscopic surgery became popular during the decade of the 60 's. Since then, many reports established the advantages of this technique in diagnosis and treatment of articular pathology, specially usefull at the knee joint. This study presents a 3 years period experience about knee arthroscopy in 350 consecutive cases at our Hospital, since 1995 to 1998. The average age of the patients was 37 years, 67,2% were male. Most frecuent clinical symptom was pain (96%) follow by diminish articular range motion (68%). Without consider simple xRay, most common complementary study was neumoarthrography. lsolated meniscal Lesion ( 46, 6%) was the most frequent arthroscopic diagnosis. Average hospital stay was 1, 7 days. 3 cases of major complications were reported, 1 septic arthritis and 2 deep venous thrombosis, ali of them had good response with usual therapy. Arthroscopic surgery is a minimal invasive technique, with excellent results in diagnosis and treatment of knee pathology, requiring a short hospital stay, with fow complications and excellent functional outcome.
