Within the next 5 to 15 years, cancer is likely to become the leading cause of death in industrialized countries, some years later this will happen also in Chile. To identify causes of cancer like smoking, dietary factors, infectious agents, environmental pollutants and intrinsic factors like specific germline mutations will allow prevent cancer. In Chile we have specific cancer problems, as gallbladder cancer- with a rising incidence and mortality, that demand national research effort.
