Abstract

Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) has become one of the largely most significantly disease associated to the respiratory distress syndrome and frecuently related to a chronic lung disease of the infants. Affects about 25 to 30% of the very low birth weight preterms infants and to nearly the 75% of the preterms weighing less than 1.000 g. at birth. BPD is one of the causes of severe morbility and hospitalization during the first year oflife. Its etiology has numerous causative factors as lung inmaturity, the use of mechanical ventilation, oxygen toxicity, under nutrition, antioxidant hipoactivity. Due to the multifactorial pathogenesis of the BPD, many therapeutic trials have been developed in different areas, looking foward to reduce the incidence or its severity. The purpose of this a11icle is to review the present stage of sorne of the managements especially the early administration of steroids, matter of what our neonatal unit is largely involved developing several researchs these past years.
