The thromboembolic disease is an important and serious complication in hospitalized and surgical patients. It is responsible of 1 death out of every 100 patients dueto the most severe of its manifestations wich is the pulmonary embolism. Up to date, it is possible to recognize the risk factors to increase the
incidence of this disease, and this allows the
identification of the patients that would have the
benefits of prophylactic measures, mechanical or
pharmacologycal.
According to the references, and prophylactic measure is better than nothing. The use of subcutaneous standard heparin (SH) may have hemorragic complications and is uneffecti ve in orthopaedic surgery. Toe use of low weight heparins (LWH) seems to be a good option since the Antithrombotic action predominates over the
anticoagulant action.
